Installing CentOS 7 in VirtualBox

Creating the virtual machine to install CentOS 7

The steps for installing CentOS 7 in a VirtualBox, are the same as for installing CentOS 7 on a computer (documented in another FAQ). This document will explain how to create and configure a virtual machine with VirtualBox to boot using the ISO.

To do this, the first step is to open VirtualBox:

From the previous screen, we click the "New" button, which will allow us to create a new virtual machine:

On this screen, you have to choose the following values:

  • Name: CentOS 7
  • Type: Linux
  • Version: Red Hat (64 bits)

Then you have to click the "Next" button.

On this screen, you must set the memory to be assigned to the virtual machine, which must be at least 1024 MB. Then we click on the "Next" button.

In this screen, choose the option "Create a virtual hard disk now" and click the button "Create".

In this screen, we choose the first option "VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)" and click the "Next" button.

In this screen, we choose the first option "Reserved dynamically" and click the "Next" button.

In this screen, we will establish the image name to "CentOS 7" and establish the size to 8.00 GB. Then we click on the "Create" button.

Modify the virtual machine to boot from CentOS 7 ISO

Once this is done, the initial window will appear again with an existing virtual machine called "CentOS 7". Select the virtual machine with the mouse and click the "Settings" button.

From this screen, we click on the menu item called "Storage".

From this screen, click on the CD that appears under "IDE Controller" and once this item selected, press the button with the image of a CD that appears next to the "CD/DVD option: IDE secondary master". From the options that will appear us, we will choose the option "Select a virtual disk file to CD/DVD ".

Now, with the file selector that opens, we search the ISO image that you downloaded to install CentOS 7.

Once the ISO image you will use to install CentOS SaltOS 7, click on the "OK" button selected.

Starting the Installation

The next step is to press the "Start" button to turn on the new virtual machine that we have created to install CentOS 7. With this, the virtual machine will start and begin the CentOS 7 unattended setup.

Modify the virtual machine to boot from the new CentOS 7

At this point of the process, CentOS 7 will be installed on the hard disk of the virtual machine, so that now the CD/DVD must be removed. To do this, we access the configuration of the virtual machine instead of selecting an ISO image, choose the option "Delete virtual disk drive".

Now, will press the "OK" button.

First CentOS 7 boot

The CentOS 7 virtual machine with a pre-installed SaltOS is ready to be used. To do this, click on the "Start" button.
